It has recorded from more than 1,000years ago, Beppu/ Kannawa/Kamegawa areas were abhorred by people because of the fumoroles, heat muds, boiling water. And it is said that the origin of why it has called "Hell"

The hell tour was used to have 8 places included Yamajigoku(mountain hell), However, it became 7 hells in present.

You can enjoy the tour with rental car or taxi, However, we recommend to use "Hell tour course bus" present by Kamenoi bus.
It costs 3690JPY, included 7 all places entrance ticket, and bus.
(Regular entrance ticket costs of ticket cotsts 2,000JPY)
(If you visit the hells individually, it costs 400JPY in each places)

In Tatsumaki jigoky(tornado hell) is the place you can watch geyser activity.
The schedule can be change depends of what time it is activate.

Umijigoku sea hell(place of national scenic beauty)Mysterious cobalt blue

Umi jigoku is the place where has the most beautiful hell of 7 hells.
It is one of the hot spring which was made by eruption of Mt. tsurumidake in 1200years ago. In there, you can see cobalt blue hell and it is origin why it started to call as "sea hell" The hot spring temperature is 98℃ in Celsius, and they made pudding or boiled eggs with using the hot spring.
Spring quality is acidic and included a lot of "iron sulfate", so that's why it looks in cobalt blue. "The gallery about hells" is located in 2nd floor at souvenir shop, we recommend people who want to know the history of hells.
Oniishi bouzu jigoku / Demon ghost stone Bussha hell Burbling shaved head

The appearance that the gray heat mud boils, is similar to the slippery shaved head, so it has the name of "Onishi Buddha Hell".
At the restroon "Kobiri", you can try snacks such as "Hell steam pudding"(300JPY) or "Kanchi dori buns"(300JPY). Also there is foot bath prepared, so you can warm yourself up.
Right next to the hell, there is hot spring called "Oniishi no yu" which you can enjoy inside bath, outside bath and family bath.
Kamado jigoku / furnace hellThe hell where can enjoy various hells in one place.

"kamado hell" is the place where 90degree hot spring gushes out with fumes.
The origin of the name was that guardian got 氏神 was making meals with fumes of hell.There are 1-6district in each area, you can enjoy various kinds of hot spring in one place.
Moreover, there are drinkable hot spring, hands,feet,throat, skin steaming, and also 3kinds of footbath.
Right next to the foot bath, there is the kiosk which you can enjoy Pitan steamed in hot spring, and "Ishigaki steamed bun" which is famous food in Kamado hell.
Oniyama jigoku / Demon mountain hellCrocodile Panic!

It is a place where 99.1degree boiling spring gushes out from 187 meters underground.
The amount of discharge is 8tons per hour, which is reach to 200tons per day.
The Oniyama hell is known as "Crocodile hell". is the first place where have started to breeding crocodiles with using hot spring fever in 1923.
There are about 80 crocodiles or alligators from all over the world are breed currently.
Shiraike Jigoku / White pond hell (place of national scenic beauty)Fantasy hell which surrounded by nature.

Shiraike hell, where has blue-ish white color pond exist in Japanese style garden.
When it gushes out, the clear hot spring water color changes it to pale white by temperature and pressure, and it makes you feel relaxed when you see it with the garden.
In addition, there is tropical fish center which using a heat from hotspring, and you can see tropical fishes that inhabiting Amazon.
Chino ike jigoku/ blood hell (place of national scenic beauty)The oldest red natural hell

It is the oldest natural hell which have been existing from 1300 years ago, and called it “Red heat mud pond” in one word. In "Bungokoku topography" which was written in Nara era, it shows name as "Sekiyusen Red hot fountain"
The are a is 1300 square meters, the depth is over 30meters, temperature is 78degree in Celsius. Heat mud which including iron oxide and magnesium is bushes out.
The ointment which is made from clay is famous for effective for skin disease.
Tatumaki jigoku / Tornado hellThe geyser that jets out is spectacular!

n the geyser Tatsumaki hell, hot spring jets out in a cycle with fixed time.
The hot water which has 105degree Celsius have energy to jump up to 50meters without blocking roof or wall.
The fixed time is 30-40min, and time of spouting is about 5min. Shop inside the Tatsumaki hell sells products from Beppu and Kunisaki region. You can also try milk gelato or fresh juice which was picked in farm inside of hell.
